On September 7, 2015 1630 central daylight time, a Piper, PA-28R-201T, N44903, was substantially damaged during a forced landing near Foley, Alabama. The private pilot and passenger were not injured. The personal flight was conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight, which departed Foley Municipal Airport (5R4), Foley, Alabama at about 1450.
According to the pilot, about thirty minutes into the flight, while flying at an altitude of approximately 4,500 feet, the engine lost oil pressure. About 2 minutes later, the engine started losing power rapidly. After declaring an emergency with air traffic control, the pilot elected to land on a residential street that was clear of traffic. During the landing roll, the right wing struck several mailboxes, resulting in substantial damage to the wing.
Federal Aviation Administration inspectors examined the airplane after the accident and found that the engine's case was breached. The engine was retained for further examination.
