On June 3, 2017, about 0945 mountain daylight time, a Luscombe 8A, N1627K, sustained substantial damage after a loss of power and subsequent forced landing near the Rexburg-Madison County Airport (RXE), Rexburg, Idaho. The commercial pilot, the sole occupant, sustained minor injuries. The airplane was registered to the pilot and operated as a personal flight under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a flight plan was not filed. The flight originated from RXE about 0845.
The pilot reported that while on final approach to the runway the airplane lost engine power and he initiated a forced landing to a nearby marshy field. The airplane collided with a fence during the forced landing and ultimately came to rest in a river.
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the wings and aft fuselage.
The airplane was removed from the river by the landowner and recovered to a secure location for further examination.
