On December 20, 2005, about 1020 central standard time, a Cessna 150F, N8723S, owned and piloted by a student pilot, sustained substantial on impact with snow and terrain when the airplane exited runway 30 at the Poplar Grove Airport (C77), near Poplar Grove, Illinois, during landing. The solo instructional flight was operating under 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. No flight plan was on file. The pilot sustained no injury. The local flight originated from C77 about 1000.
The pilot's accident report stated:
Made final fast and flat. Contacted runway and bounced up and to
right. Ended in snow, off the runway, right side up, nose wheel
bent back.
The pilot's safety recommendation was, "Be more ready to do a go-around."
The student pilot's inadequate recovery from the bounced landing, and not maintaining airplane control during the landing.
