The private pilot was landing at the destination airport with light winds. The pilot performed a go-around on the first attempt because the airplane's airspeed was too high. On the second attempt, the pilot was still "a little too fast" and floated the airplane past his intended landing point. Upon touchdown, the pilot applied brakes, but was not able to stop the airplane on the remaining runway. The airplane departed the end of the runway, impacted terrain, and sheared the airplane's landing gear resulting in substantial damage to the wings and firewall. The pilot reported no malfunctions with the airplane prior to the accident.
The pilot's improper touchdown point during landing, which resulted in a runway overrun.
