On January 19, 2018, about 1500 mountain standard time, a Buckeye Industries Dream Machine 582 powered-parachute, N92048, collided with wires near Chester, Montana. The aircraft was registered to and operated by the pilot under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The sport-pilot the sole occupant, sustained serious injuries and the aircraft sustained substantial damage. The local personal flight departed from Liberty County Airport, Chester, Montana about 1450. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight and a flight plan had not been filed.
The Liberty County Sherriff's Office received a report of the accident at 1505. The powered-parachute came to rest entangled in the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) powerlines a mile south of Chester. The wreckage was oriented consistent with the aircraft heading in a southerly flight prior to impact. The pilot was found lying in the snow adjacent to the wreckage and had sustained severe burns.
