On August 24, 2016, about 1500 Pacific daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Schneider/Cook SC Skybolt, N300SB, sustained substantial damage following a landing gear collapse during taxi at the Corvallis Municipal Airport, Corvallis, Oregon. The private pilot and pilot rated passenger were not injured. The flight was being operated by the pilot as a personal flight under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no FAA flight plan was on file.
The pilot reported that the airplane had recently been purchased by a new owner, and he was asked to fly with them since he had extensive experience in similar airplanes. The flight was uneventful and consisted of normal maneuvers and a number of touch-and-go landings. After the last landing, as the airplane was taxiing back to the ramp, the left main landing gear collapsed. Initial examination of the main landing gear truss system revealed substantial damage to the fuselage frame structure.
A detailed examination of the landing gear truss structure is pending.
