NTSB Factual Report

On November 23, 2003, at 1255 eastern standard time, a Cessna 182Q, N735XY, was substantially damaged during an overrun at the Skyhaven Airport (76N), Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. The certificated private pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the personal local flight that originated from the Wyoming Valley Airport (WBW), Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91.

According to the pilot, while landing on runway 01, a 2,007-foot long, asphalt runway, the airplane touched down long, and ran off the end. The airplane continued across a grass field and struck trees, before coming to rest upright.

The wind conditions at an airport located 15 miles southeast of 76N, about the time of the accident, were from 340 degrees at 4 knots.

NTSB Probable Cause

The pilot's misjudgment of distance resulting in an overrun.
