On July 16, 2018, about 1430 central daylight time, a Cessna 182 airplane, N182GQ, caught fire after landing at Odessa Airport-Schlemeyer Field (KODO), Odessa, Texas. The commercial rated pilot was not injured, and the airplane was substantially damaged. The airplane was registered to Gulf Coast Helicopters Inc. and operated by a private individual under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a positioning flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight which operated without a flight plan.
According to preliminary information provided by the Federal Aviation Administration, after landing the pilot detected the smell of smoke. He stopped the airplane and egressed. The fire consumed portions of the fuselage and wings.
The airplane was retained for further examination.
