On August 16, 2004, at approximately 0845 mountain daylight time, a Maule M-6-235, N167MC, piloted by a private pilot, was substantially damaged when it struck terrain while landing at a private airstrip approximately 18 nautical miles north of Dubois, Wyoming. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The local flight was being conducted under the provisions of Title 14 CFR Part 91 without a flight plan. The pilot and passenger were not injured. The flight departed Dubois Municipal Airport, (U25), Dubois Wyoming, at approximately 0830.
According to the pilot, he was maneuvering near a private airstrip and decided to land. The pilot said that, he misjudged the approach and "landed short," approximately 15 yards from the end of the runway. The impact collapsed both main landing gear assemblies.
